CAMC Exeter
Purely a ‘stop-off’ for me, to break up my journey. Considered Taunton but forced to cancel as no loo! Exeter CAMC site is on a race course. You have to cross it (over sand) to get to it and it’s off a very busy dual carriageway.
Not the best nights sleep and very windy. It’s open there, understandably, given its location. If you like ‘the races’ and plan to visit for that reason, then it’s perfect. It’s right there and you can walk across.
It is convenient and served my purpose.
Start Bay, Torcross, Devon
What a wonderful place.
Loved every minute of being here. From the lovely warden who welcomed me and made me feel calm to the beautiful shore (Slapton Sands) which you can walk on for miles.
The South West Coastal path is accessible from the promenade, which offers eateries as you walk along. The beach is pebbly, so good walking boots needed, but becomes more sandy as you progress past the ‘busyness’. The whole place is accentuated by the nature reserve (Slapton Ley) which runs parallel to the beach on the other side of the road running through Torcross.
From the CAMC site, you can walk into Torcross along the permissive path.
There is also a Farm Shop and café and associated taphouse just along from the caravan and motorhome club campsite called Stokeley. It’s like a hamlet with a few houses on the left hand side as you walk up to the farm shop. I love farm shops and this one did not disappoint.
Why CAMC?
You may ask why so many CAMCs?
Well, if you have begun to know me a little, you will understand why I need familiarity. There have been plenty of private, independent campsites visited this year, since my journey began in May, and the majority of those have been great. But, in the winter months, most of the private sites close, and those which remain open tend to be more expensive. I’m still on a tight budget!
Godrevy Park Club Campsite, Hayle (another CAMC….)
Hayle is such a beautiful place. The day I arrived was windy and cold, yet it did not deter me from seeking out the beautiful, long, ‘surfer’s paradise’ beach.
One may think it’s the perfect place for bodyboarding, but without my close friend, it seemed too daunting to tackle those monstrous waves.
And the RNLI signage indicated that you needed to be a strong swimmer to tackle them anyway! I still had some lovely walks…..
Final Thoughts
It’s been great to be able to choose my destinations. There are more CAMC sites opening during the winter months, which is great for people who live mostly on the road, like me. I say mostly, as I do some pet sitting occasionally……
