Recent Visits To Some Of The UK’s Most Beautiful Places

If you love beautiful beaches or long walks, you’ve come to the right place. Here are a few ideas of where to go. West Wales is one of the prettiest parts of the UK, and with the West Wales Coast Path and National Trust and dedicated car parks, you’re well covered.

Travelling around the UK and seeing beautiful places which I never would have, is the best part of all this. But are there any favourites which I visit often and where have I been to lately?

Tresaith Beach, Ceredigion.

This had to be the first one to discuss. It holds a very special place in my heart. When my dad was very ill, in fact merely weeks before his passing, he was discussing his funeral arrangements. So, I asked him.

‘Dad, what do you want?’

His reply:

‘I want to be cremated, I don’t want a burial. You know why. And I want to be scattered at our favourite beach.’

‘Ok,’ I said, holding back the tears. ‘I’ll make sure it happens Dad.’

Why here?

When we moved into our flat, our dad would visit as often as he could. He loved it when I would drive him around the area (in his car) and show him the beautiful places.

Tresaith, back then, wasn’t as popular as it is today. In fact, there was never an issue about getting a parking space. Now, thankfully, there’s a dedicated honesty box carpark at the top, before you begin the steepest descent. If you’re travelling from Aberporth, as you come down the first decline into Tresaith, the dedicated carpark is on your right hand side. If you reach the next bend (turning right takes you up to the A487, turning left takes you right down to the beach), then you’ve gone past it!

There is a pub (The Ship Inn), a shop, a food and drink hut (Y Caban) at the bottom, and now also Skippers, which offers pizzas and drinks with private events (parties, wakes etc.), pub quizzes and log sawing competitions.

I have visited Tresaith over the years, and just to give you a taste of the beauty, here’s a vlog of the scenery for you to look at……

Poppit Sands, Pembrokeshire.

This is another of my favourite beaches along this stretch of the coastline which forms Cardigan Bay.

The beach is located at the mouth of the Teifi estuary. Cardigan Island can be seen in the distance, and gaze to the right to see the infamous Cliff Hotel and Gwbert Hotel.

To the left of the beach, a short stroll where you’ll see rocks and the old lifeboat station in the distance. We used to call it our private beach. You can access it when the tide is out and by walking across the rocks. If you’re unsteady on uneven surfaces, then you have to walk around. Follow the road behind the Crwst café and past the houses which you can see from the current RNLI station. You have to wind your way down through undergrowth but it’s so worth it.

The view to the right gives you Cardigan Island and the Cliff and Gwbert Hotels, respectively.

Yes, it’s January, but the scenery remains immense. Take a look at a video I put together just to show you the best bits…..

Newport, Pembrokeshire

This is another beauty you must visit. Take the turning off the A487 once you reach Newport itself. There is plenty of parking but it’s a popular destination during the high season so be mindful of the timing of your visit.

It was a cold, blustery day, but nothing takes away the stunning view. Simply breathtaking!

Just to the left, another viewpoint. If the tide is in, you’ll need a tractor to reach some of those houses, or you just wait until it goes out again!

Goodwick, Pembrokeshire.

Another one I visit regularly. Fishguard Harbour sees ferries crossing the Irish Sea over to Rosslare from here. There is also a train station. The National Trust carpark is between Fishguard Harbour garage and Tesco. As a trial scheme, it allows motorhomes and campervans to park up overnight for £10.00.

The view from the breakwater across to Fishguard Harbour.

The view across to the coastline on the other side. This takes you along the Marine Walk leading to Lower Town Fishguard.

Final Thoughts

Yes, this is where I call home. A place which will always be dear to me. Hopefully, this sneak preview has shown you just how beautiful this part of the country is.

  1. Lovely to see those glorious images of the Pembrokeshire coast +. Over the last couple of years we’ve been walking from Cardigan heading south. We reached Bosherston last summer. Your images bring back lovely memories of that beautiful coastline. Even the refinery riviera area of Milford Haven has it’s charms!

    • I agree. The coastline is stunning. St.David’s, Broadhaven, Freshwater East. I managed to get to quite a few late summer/early Autumn and it was glorious, even with the storms! Bosherston is a particular favourite of mine. And you cannot dismiss Milford. I was there for the Tall Ship’s Race in 1991!
